What is Your Child Doing This Summer?

Very often sports related youth summer camps, like youth basketball camps, are held on college campuses so that the kids have access to the college’s sports facilities. When these youth basketball and sports camps are sleep away camps the kids usually sleep in the empty college dorms and most of them really enjoy that. One of the best youth basketball camps is held each summer at South Dakota State University. Parents can research the youth basketball camp run at South Dakota State online and can even register their child online. There are youth basketball camps for boys and girls. It also makes a big difference in cost if the camp is a sleep away camp because then there is additional staff to watch the kids and additional items that parents need to purchase like clothing, sleeping bags, food and other things. Sleep away camp is not the right answer for every kid, but most kids who are going to attend basketball camp love sleep away youth camps.
Sleep Away Camp Vs. Day Camp
The biggest thing to consider when deciding on sending a child to a youth basketball camp is whether it’s a sleep away camp or a day camp. Even when money is no object, sleep away camp is not right for every child. Children who are younger or who have never been away from home before may prefer attending a day youth basketball camp held at a local park, school, or YMCA rather than attending a sleep away camp. Kids who have a lot of activities scheduled in the summer or play other sports might not want to miss their other activities while attending a sleep away youth basketball camp. Ultimately the parents should sit down with the child and talk with the child about what type of youth basketball camp would be best for the child.
